Men's Golf T-13th After NCAA Champ 1st Round

The eighth-seeded Florida men's golf team is tied for 13th out of 30 squads with a team score 296 (+8), 16 strokes behind leader Arizona, after the first round of the NCAA Championships Wednesday at the Duke University Golf Club (Par 72, 7,088 yards).
"I'm pretty disappointed and pretty close to shocked that we would shoot 8 over today under perfect weather conditions," Coach Buddy Alexander said. "I'm pretty shocked and disappointed that we're 16 shots behind."
Individually, senior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) leads the Gators in a tie for fourth overall, shooting a 69 (-3). Junior Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) is tied for 45th with a first-round 74 (+2). Freshman Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia/The Columbus School) shot a 76 (+4) to come in tied for 96th. Junior Ben Banks (Englan, UK/King Edwards School) and sophomore Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) are tied for 116th with 5-over-par 77's.
The top 15 teams (and nine top individuals not on those teams) after the first two rounds advance to the finals Friday and Saturday. UF tees off Thursday at 7:45 a.m.
