Gator Soccer Player Named Preseason All-American

The University of Florida's Abby Wambach (Pittsford, N.Y.) was selected to the collegesoccer.com Preseason All-America Second Team. Wambach is a three-time member of the collegesoccer.com All-America squad.
Wambach was named to the U.S. Under-21 Women's National Team in July and competed in the Nordic Cup in Norway- the top competition in the world for under-21 women. She was the co-leading goal scorer (three goals) for the U.S.'s gold-medal team at the Nordic Cup. During the 2000 season, Wambach led the Gators with 23 goals and 54 assists and was fourth in the nation in points per game (2.57 ppg) and sixth in goals per game (1.10 gpg). As a junior, she was named the 2000 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and also picked up the SEC Tournament MVP award.
She turned in six multi-goal matches in 2000, including three-goal outings in three matches and a four-goal outing in the opening match of the SEC Tournament. She became the Gator's all-time points leader in 2000 with a total of 166 career points. Wambach has earned All-America honors each of her seasons at UF. She is a three-time member of the All-SEC first and SEC All-Tournament teams.
