Men's Tennis Wins Seven of Eight Matches

The Florida men's tennis team took seven of eight matches from South Florida on the first day of the Gator Invitational at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. In the day’s other contest, Miami won seven of 10 matches against Auburn. Although the teams competed head-to-head, the matches are only scored on an individual player-by-player basis.

Florida swept the three doubles matches by comfortable margins. Transfer Chris McDonald and freshman Hamid Mirzadeh won their first match on their new home turf with a 8-2 win at No. 1, highlighting the sweep.

Singles play saw Florida take four of the five contested matches, losing only at No. 3. Troy Hahn and Ryan Sherry were quick winners for the Gators at No. 2 and No. 5. Jorge Escallon posted USF's lone win, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3 but UF won the final two matches. Trey Johnson posted a 6-0, 3-6, 7- 5 win at No. 4 to improve his fall record to 7-0. Eleazar Magallan capped the evening's play with a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-1 win at No. 1 over Paco Antelo.

Play continues through the weekend in Gainesville. Saturday at 9:00 am, UF will face Auburn while Miami battles USF. On Sunday at 9:00 am, UF will face Miami while USF plays Auburn. Admission is free.
