GATOR INVIT. DAY 3
M-Tennis Splits with Miami at Gator Invitational
Sunday, September 30, 2001 | Men's Tennis
The University of Florida men’s tennis team today concluded competition at the 2001 Gator Invitational by winning five of 10 matches against players from the University of Miami. Auburn won all seven matches it played against South Florida to complete the three-day event.
Although the teams competed head-to-head, the matches are only scored on an individual player-by-player basis.
“Miami is a top-15 team in the nation and we competed well,” UF head coach Andy Jackson said. “Overall, I thought the weekend was a success. We showed improvement and development. I’m pleased with the weekend’s play.”
In doubles action, the Gator’s No. 1 duo of Hamid Mirzadeh and Troy Hahn rallied back from a 6-1 deficit in the 8-game pro-set against Tarik El Bassiouni and Andrew Golub to take the match 8-6.
Florida returns to action next weekend, traveling to Stone Mountain, Ga., to compete in the ITA All-American, one of the four Collegiate Grand Slam events.
