Remaining Gators Make Stand at Pro Tournament

Only one doubles team of Gators is still alive at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Satellite Circuit event being hosted at the University of Florida's Ring Tennis Center. No Florida players remain in the main singles draw that concluded the second round Thursday.
Recent UF graduate Stephanie Hazlett (Evansville, Ind.) faced the No. 1 seeded Vanessa Webb, Can. in the first match of the morning. Hazlett had struggled with a twisted vertebra, which was causing her muscles to stiffen. The injury caused her to withdraw from the doubles competition. Hazlett was unable to overcome the affliction and lost the match 6-2, 6-2.
"Everything went alright in that first match," Webb said. "We had a couple of games there that went really long. Hazlett is a very tough player to face. She is very hit or miss. She can make either and easy error or a great shot, which made it very difficult to get into a rhythm."
Current Florida player Lindsay Dawaf (Olney, Md.) was then the final Gator to take the ill-fated court one where two other UF players had found defeat in the tournament. Dawaf played Ivana Abramovic, Cro., who won her spot through qualification play. Dawaf struggled throughout the match as Abramovic took a quick win with 6-1, 6-1.
The only hope that Florida had left in tournament was the doubles team of Dawaf and Jessica Lehnhoff (Delray Beach, Fla.). Lehnhoff lost to No. 7 Tiffany Dabek, USA in the first round of the singles main draw on Tuesday. Dawaf and Lehnhoff teamed up against the all-American duo of Tanner Cochran and Lindsay Lee-Waters. The Gator duo played a strong first set to win 6-4, but faltered in the second losing 6-1. They then rallied back to take control of the third set 6-4.
Dawaf and Lehnhoff will now face Galle Adda, Fra. and Shenay Perry, USA. Adda and Perry won their match against No. 4 Aneta Soukup, Can. and Tiffany Dabek, USA through retirement. Play will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. Semifinals will commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday with finals being played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
