The University of Florida men's swimming and diving team finished fourth out of six teams with 275 points Saturday in the final day of competition in the 20th annual Dallas Morning News Classic. University of California, which was in second place Friday behind Tennessee, surpassed the Volunteers Saturday and won the two-day event with a score of 328 points.
Four Gators posted second-place finishes in four different events, and overall, Florida collected nine top-five finishes in Day Two of the event.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Carlos Jayme, Hendrik Odendaal, Duncan Sherrard and Gabriel Mangabeira combined for a time of 3:00.72 to finish third. IN the 200-yard free relay, Odendaal, Jayme, Adam Sioui and Sherrard recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:21.83.
In individual events, Ian Chadsey notched a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:02.24. Jayme also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (44.72), as did Zach Wilcox in the three-meter diving with 335.45 points. Sherrard wrapped up the second-place finishes for the Gators with his time 1:48.58 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Sioui finished third in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:32.28, while Eric Donnelly clocked in at 1:52.36 in the 200-yard individual medley for a fourth-place finish. Mike Jansen wrapped up individual scoring with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:48.18.
Florida hosts Auburn Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Gators will then host fellow SEC member Alabama Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m.
