Monday, October 14, 2002 | Football
Florida head football coach Ron Zook announced captains for this weekend's home conference game versus Auburn today. Senior RB Earnest Graham and juniors DE Clint Mitchell and LS Casey Griffith were named to the honor today as the Gators begin preparations for Auburn.
Graham will represent the offense as he accounts for over half of UF's rushing yards (565 of 956) and touchdowns (seven of 14). Graham has also carried for four of five of Florida's rushing "Big Plays," as well as having two 100-yard games so far this season. Currently, he ranks fifth-best in school history with 29 rushing touchdowns and sixth in career rushing yardage with 2,545 yards.
Defensively, Mitchell will serve as the defensive captain after leading the team with 20 "Big Plays" this season, including 10 quarterback hurries and four tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble and later recovered it in UF's win over Tennessee.
Griffith was named captain for the third time this season, representing special teams. He is a redshirt junior walk-on who has served as the longsnapper in all seven games this season.
This weekend's game versus Auburn is UF's sixth nationally televised game this season. This will be the second game televised by ESPN this season and kickoff is set for 6:45 pm at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
