UF Completes Final Day of Southern States

Members of the University of Florida men's and women's swimming teams completes action at the Southern States Championships Saturday. Florida did not participate in team scoring in the three-day event.
In the men's 1,650-yard freestyle, Matt Yacco eclipsed the meet record by 15 seconds, clocking in at 15:35.88. Oliver Heinricher followed with a time of 15:43.75, while Jesus Dominguez and Steve Friedlander finished the event in 15:50.42 and 15:57.05, respectively.
In the men's 200-yard backstroke, Jonathan Strauss finished in 1:51.46, and Chris Dwyer clocked in at 46.79 in the 100-yard freestyle. Katie McCown touched the wall in 2:22.79 in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Corey Welch led Florida swimmers in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a meet-record time of 2:02.97. Will Ratliff and Bernie Guenther also swam that event.
Florida travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the SEC Championships next week. The diving portion of the event runs from Feb. 18-20, while swimming goes from Feb. 20-23.
