Men's Tennis Upsets USF, 4-3
Sunday, February 3, 2002 | Men's Tennis
For the first time this year UF lost the doubles point. Olivier Levant and Magallan came away with a 8-4 win at No. 2 but the odd matches went for the Bulls, including the decisive match at No. 1 where Paco Antelo and Uli Kiendl clipped Chris McDonald and Hamid Mirzadeh, 9-8 (9-7).
The Gators took four of the six singles matches though for the overall team victory. UF took a 3-1 lead by racking up wins by Mirzadeh, Levant and Matt Behrmann at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. The Bulls clawed their way back to even the match at 3-3 though on the heels of wins at No. 3 and No. 6. That left just Magallan on the courts at No. 2 but the All-Big 12 transfer from Kansas put away Kiendl, 6-3, 7-5.
Florida returns to action on Feb. 16 when the Gators host Brown at 4:00 pm.
