Men's Tennis Begins Seminole Fall Classic
Friday, September 20, 2002 | Men's Tennis
The University of Florida men's tennis team began the 2002 fall season with a perfect first day as it opened play on Thursday at the Seminole Fall Classic held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. Each of the eight Gators in singles action advanced to the second round of the three-day event, which will continue through Saturday.
"Obviously, not losing any of your singles matches on the first day is a nice way to start things," UF head coach Andy Jackson said. "There are some quality players here and it is only going to get harder. I thought Matt (Behrmann) had a quality win, and was pleased with the way everyone was doing. I think the level of things will move up drastically tomorrow. We are interested in seeing how we fair as things move along."
In the Singles A draw, Eleazar Magallan, Janna Holmia, Troy Hahn, Olivier Levant and Matt Behrmann all came away with victories in their respective matches. Jordan Dolberg, Stefan Tell, Trey Johnson and also advanced as they each competed in the Singles B draw.
The 13-team classic, which features 80 players from the south region, will continue on Friday and Saturday with matches beginning at 9 a.m. both days.
