Men's Tennis Opens Gator Invitational
Friday, September 27, 2002 | Men's Tennis
The University of Florida men's tennis team began the 2002 Gator Invitational on Friday against Mississippi State at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville.
""Last weekend we played against teams that weren't in the SEC," said UF head coach Andy Jackson. "This week, I thought we responded well against a conference school. I'm interested to see how we play tomorrow and through the rest of the weekend. USF has brought a very good team up here. It was a little strange playing against Mississippi State today (Jackson coached at MSU before coming to Florida). In this format it was really different because it was more about practicing and conditioning."
In singles play, Janne Holmia, Troy Hahn, Matt Behrmann and Stefan Tell all picked up wins. Florida was also victorious in a pair of doubles matches as the teams of Behrmann and Hahn and Holmia and Trey Johnson won their matches.
Florida will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28, with matches against South Florida at 10 a.m. Miami and Mississippi State will also begin their matches at that time.
