Men's Tennis Players Advance At Tournament

Several members of the University of Florida men's tennis team advanced in an effort to qualify for the National Indoor Championships in qualifying rounds Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
Sophomore Stefan Tell moved into the Round of 32 after defeating Kentucky's Tigran Martirosyan (6-2; 6-3) to win his fourth match in his last five tries. Tell, now 5-4, will take on 49th-ranked Gabor Zoltan Pelva of Auburn at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Junior Vladimir Obradovic, ranked 99th, also advanced to the Round of 32 after beating Vanderbilt's Lewis Smith in straight sets (6-4; 7-6). He faces No. 11 Romain Ambert of Mississippi State at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Freshman Marty Stiegwardt also moved into the Round of 32 after getting past Middle Tennessee State's Brandon Allen (6-4; 6-3). Stiegwardt (7-4) has now won six of his last seven matches and takes on No. 67 Matias Ormaza of Georgia at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore Jordan Dolberg fell in the Round of 64 to 99th-ranked Josh Cohen of Miami in straight sets (6-1; 6-1). Dolberg had won three of his last four matches and fell to 5-4 on the season. Senior Trey Johnson also lost in the Round of 64 after being defeated by Tulane's David Goulet.
In doubles action, Dolberg and Stiegwardt fell to the Middle Tennessee State tandem of Kirk Jackson and Trevor Short (8-6). Sophomore Ryan Sherry and Tell were defeated by Tulane's Dmitriy Koch and Goulet (8-4).
After receiving a bye into the Round of 32, Johnson and Obradovic will take on Alabama-Birmingham's Sanzaruz Zaman and Ruben Zrihen Saturday at 5 p.m. Play continues on through Sunday.
