Gators Move On At ITA All-America Championship

Two University of Florida men's tennis doubles teams as well as a pair of newcomers to the squad kept things rolling on Saturday in the prequalifying rounds of the 2003 ITA All-America Championship in Chattanooga, TN.
Early in the day, junior Vlad Obradovic defeated BYU's Alonso Medina, 6-2, 6-1 to move into the singles round of 32, which will be played tomorrow. Obradovic then teamed with Trey Johnson in the doubles as the duo posted a pair of wins. In their opening match, the UF tandem defeated Brenton Contini and Dennis Mertens of Ohio State, 8-4, before moving on to take out Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto of Mississippi State, 8-3. Johnson and Obradovic will play Arizona's Tom Lloyd and Paul Warkentin tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET in the round of 32
Freshman Martin Stiegwardt's day went the same way as Obradovic's as started off with a win in the singles over San Diego's Nic Beuque (7-5, 6-1). He and Chris Brandi received a bye into the doubles round of 64 where they met Jose Luis Lechuga and Nima Roshan of BYU and claimed an 8-6 victory. Brandi and Stiegwardt will play Oklahoma State's Felipe Diaz and Boris Kuharic tomorrow at 12:30 ET in the round of 32
