Florida junior Vlad Obradovic moved into the qualifying round of the 2003 ITA All-American Championship on Monday with his win over LSU's Ken Skupski (6-3; 4-6; 6-3).
Obradovic's win came over Skupski who was ranked 89th in the preseason ITA poll. Obradovic faces 63rd-ranked Fabrizio Sestini of TCU on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Obradovic joined teammate Martin Stiegwardt, who made it into the qualifying bracket yesterday due to injuries to others in the field. Stiegwardt's opponent for the next round will be Michigan's Michael Rubin who is ranked 78th in the nation. The two will start play at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Obradovic will also represent UF in the doubles along with teammate Trey Johnson as the two will square off against 40th-ranked Jon Endrikat and Amanjot Singh of Cal-Irvine.
The qualifying rounds will run tomorrow and Wednesday before the main draw goes from Thursday until Sunday. Florida will be the only team represented in the main draw by two players who are ranked in the top eight in the country. UF sophomore Janne Holmia came in at fifth in the ITA preseason poll, while teammate Hamid Mirzadeh checked in at No. 8.
