Tuesday, December 9, 2003 | Football
Florida offensive lineman Shannon Snell and defensive back Keiwan Ratliff were named First Team All-Americans by The Sporting News Tuesday. Tight end Ben Troupe was named to the second team.
Snell is one of only two Gators on the offensive line to start every game at the same position, lining up at left guard in every contest. He was named Offensive Lineman of the Week three times and Most Physical Lineman once during the 2003 season.
Ratliff leads the Southeastern Conference and the team with nine interceptions, ranking third nationally. He also holds the single-season interception record with nine surpassing Will White (1990), John Cliford (1970) and Randy Talbot (1974). He has 48 tackles on the season, along with six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. He has scored four touchdowns, two via interceptions and two off fumble recoveries.
Troupe leads the team with 39 catches for a team-best 638 yards, including two 100-yard games this season and has a team-high15 offensive "Big Plays" this season, catching at least one 20+ yard pass in seven separate games including the last five straight. He is averaging 16.4 yards per reception- the second highest total in the nation among tight ends and ranks third nationally in yards by a TE, despite ranking fifth in the nation in receptions at the position.
