Saturday, April 19, 2003 | Women's Golf
Two Lady Gators currently rank in the top-10 as the No. 9 University of Florida women's golf team is currently in third place after shooting an eight-over-par 296 in the first day of competition at the 2003 SEC Championships at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. The University of Tennessee is currently in the lead after carding a three-over-par 291.
"We played well out there today, but I know we can play better," head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "Yesterday, we weren't able to play the backside because of the wet conditions and I think that probably hurt us. We will take in with us tomorrow what we learned from today and get ourselves in position."
Freshman Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) is currently tied for seventh place after shooting an even-par 72. Cho began the day in the lead at two-under-par after nine holes as she birdied holes three and six, but she then bogeyed holes 16 and 17 to finish the day at even-par. Senior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) is tied for ninth place after carding a one-over-par 73. Junior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) is tied for 15th place, shooting a 75. Sophomore Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) is currently tied for 20th place with a score of 76 and senior Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla.) is tied for 28th place with a score of 77.
South Carolina's Kristy McPherson is currently the top individual in the tournament after shooting a four-under-par 68.
The second round of competition at the SEC Championships will begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Eastern with the Lady Gators to tee off beginning at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will conclude Sunday with the third round to start at 9 a.m.
