-Florida football head coach Ron Zook announced his captains for Saturday's game versus Tennessee.
Offensive captains will be offensive tackle Max Starks and quarterback Ingle Martin. The defensive captains will be free safety Daryl Dixon and strong safety Guss Scott.
Starks will make his 28th consecutive start against the Vols. He posting a team-high six knock downs on just 43 plays and completed an extremely efficient 10-of-12 outing against Florida A&M. Martin posted 139 yards passing, the second best total of his career, while finding DeShawn Wynn on an eight-yard touchdown pass vs. FAMU.
Dixon, the starter at free safety who leads the defense in tackles with 20, has forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and has two tackles for loss in just three games. Scott, a preseason All-SEC first-team selection, is tied for second on the team with six tackles vs. FAMU.
Running back DeShawn Wynn, defensive end Darrell Lee and cornerback Jermaine McCollum were named players of the game for the Florida A&M game. Wynn set a freshman record, tying a school total, scoring 24 points vs. FAMU with three rushing touchdowns and a receiving score. Lee leads all defensive linemen with 13 tackles. Has also recovered a fumble and registered a sack. McCollum got his second punt block of the season against FAMU when he got a hand on one. He also forced Florida A&M punter Damon Miller to pull a punt in and run with it two times during last weekend's contest. The second time it happened, McCollum tracked down Miller and forced a fumble.
Florida and Tennessee, the top two teams in the SEC's Eastern Division over the last decade, will meet for the 33rd time on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Noon. In 11 of the last 13 meetings, the team that rushed the ball for more yards won the game. Last year was an exception to this when the Gators defeated the Volunteers, 30-13, in Knoxville despite gaining only 94 yards on the ground.
