Men’s Tennis Continues At Southern Intercollegiate

The University of Florida men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday at the 2003 Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, GA. While the doubles teams found some success early on, it was three members of the squad who ultimately worked their way through the singles consolation bracket to play tomorrow.
UF's Chris Brandi defeated Georgia Tech's Jack Depaolo (6-2, 6-3) in the Division II singles bracket to move into Sunday's semifinal match. Teammates Ryan Sherry and Jordan Dolberg did the same as they will face each other in the other half of the bracket's semifinals. Sherry took out Armstrong Atlantic's David Secker (4-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (12)), while Dolberg advanced when the College of Charleston's Liran Kling retired due to an injury in the second set.
In doubles action, all of UF's three teams made it into the Round of 16 in their respective brackets. In Division I, Martin Stiegward and Stephan Tell used an 8-4 decision over the College of Charlestont's Siebert and Peter. The UF duo squared off against Georgia's Matias Ormaza and Ricardo Gonzalez in the Round of 16 where they dropped the match, 8-3. Florida's Trey Johnson and Ryan Sherry defeated Georgia State's Lisac and Jamie Rodrigues, 8-6, as they went on to suffer a setback to William and Mary's Sean Kelleher and Ward, 8-5. In the Division II double, Brandi and Dolberg defeated UNC Charlotte's Santoso and Aguirre, 8-5. They went on to play Kader of William and Mary and Reynold of the College of Charleston where they came up on the winning side, 8-6.
The Southern Intercollegiate Championships will continue through tomorrow and conclude on Monday.
