Mirzadeh Advances To Round of 16 At SEC Indoors

University of Florida All-American Hamid Mirzadeh advanced to the Round of 16 in singles action at the 2004 Southeastern Conference Indoor Men's Tennis Championship in Athens, GA, on Friday evening. In addition, Chris Brandi received a bye into the Round of 32, where he is on court against LSU's Cory Ross late Friday night.
Mirzadeh, who also received a bye into the round of 32, made his first appearance in the tournament by outlasting Ole Miss' Fredrick Aarum 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5).
Ryan Sherry and Stefan Tell came up with wins to advance to the round as well. Sherry defeated Arkansas' Rohan Gajjar, 6-0, 7-6 (3), while Tell took a straight-set victory against Alabama's Eric Molnar. Sherry dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to LSU's 33rd-ranked Ken Skupski, who is the tournament's seventh-seed. Tell also came up short in his bid to advance with a 6-3, 6-3, loss to Vanderbilt's 55th-ranked Chad Harris.
Action is set to resume Saturday at 9 a.m. in the singles and play will start in the doubles bracket tomorrow as well.
