University of Florida thrower Kim Barrett (Miami, Fla.) earned Southeastern Conference athlete of the week, the league announced Wednesday. Barrett adds that honor to her Trackwire.com athlete of the week award, which was announced earlier this week.
Barrett set the collegiate mark in the weight throw Saturday with a mark of 22.72m/74-6.50 to finish as the top collegiate athlete and second overall. That mark is the second best throw in UF history, as well as an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Later that same day, Barrett finished second in the shot put with an automatic qualifying mark of 16.80m/55-1.50.
Earlier this season, Barrett set the school record in the shot put at 56-7.25. The junior leads the SEC and the nation in both the shot put and the weight throw events.
