Florida Men's Tennis Begins ITA Southeast Regional

Several members of the University of Florida men's tennis team were in action on Friday as play began at the 2004 ITA Southeast Regional in Memphis, Tenn. Overall, five Gators advanced through first day matches to the Round of 32.
Five of six members of the team to play in the round of 64 came away with a straight set win. UF's 32nd-ranked Janne Holmia defeated Memphis' Alex Jago (6-0, 6-1). The win set up a match with Vanderbilt's Nathan Sachs on Saturday.
Newcomer Greg Ouellette moved his record to a team-best 13-1 mark with a 7-6, 6-4 victory against LSU's Colt Gaston. Tomorrow, Ouellette will meet Georgia's 77th-ranked Matia Ormaza. Florida's 44th-ranked Vladimir Obradovic also had trouble shaking a member of the LSU squad in the first set as he took a 7-6, 6-3 win over Kevin Dessauer. Obradovic also faces a Bulldog in the next round where he meets Strahinja Bobusic.
Florida's 102nd-ranked Nestor Briceno edged Marcus Sundh of Kentucky, 6-4, 7-6 to become the fourth Gator this fall to break into double digit wins with a 10-3 record. Briceno will face Georgia State's Jamie Rodriguez on Saturday.
Junior Chris Brandi rounded out the list of UF winners with a 6-2, 6-4 score in his match against Ole Miss' Bram Ten Berge. Brandi will be in action tomorrow morning against Vandberbilt's Scott Brown.
Junior Jordan Dolberg was one of three Gators who did not receive a bye into the round of 64. He started the day by defeating Tennessee's Ben Roger (6-3, 4-6, 7-5), but came up short in his effort as he dropped a 6-4, 7-6 decision to LSU's 107th-ranked Jason Hazley.
In the doubles draw, Briceno teamed with Dolberg as the two are taking on Memphis' Scott Felsenthal and James Spence. The match was scheduled to begin late Friday evening. Results will be posted on Gatorzone.com as they become available.
