UF Doubles Team To Play For Title At Southeast Regional

The University of Florida's 49th-ranked doubles team of junior Janne Holmia and newcomer Greg Ouellette posted two victories on Sunday to earn their way into the championship doubles match at the ITA Southeast Regional in Memphis, Tenn. The UF duo will take on LSU's Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski on Monday at 11 a.m. ET for an automatic trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, MI.
Holmia and Ouellette began play on Sunday in the quarterfinals as they teamed to defeat Alabama's Luigi D'Agord and Eric Molnar, 8-6. Later in the day, the tandem used the same score to make it to the championship match with a win over LSU's Danny Bryan and Jason Hazley.
Holmia was also one of two Gators in action on Sunday in the singles draw. However, he was defeated in the quarterfinal round by Miami's 76th-ranked Josh Cohen, 7-5, 6-0. UF's 44th-ranked Vladimir Obradovic also dropped his quarterfinal match to Kentucky's third-ranked Jesse Witten (6-3, 6-4).
The ITA National Indoor Championships is one of the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament and will run Thursday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 7. The event is the second of three national championships for the college tennis circuit.
The first event, the /ITA men's All-American Championships, were held earlier this month. The third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May. The ITA National Indoor Championships features a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field. Overall, more than 7,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
