Briceno Ends Run At Men's Tennis ITA All-American

University of Florida freshman Nestor Briceno's run at the 2004 Icy Hot/Men's All-American Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn., came to an end on Friday as he was defeated in the singles round of 16 by Harvard's 25th-ranked Jonathan Chu (6-4, 6-4)
Briceno finished the event with a 5-2 record as he advanced farther than any member of the Gator squad. He began play in the qualifying round where he outlasted Nebraska's 115th-ranked Adrian Szatmary (3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-1). In the round of 64, Briceno picked up a win against Duke's 108th-ranked Peter Rodrigues (7-6 (2), 6-3). At the next stage, Briceno ran into Virginia's Somdey De Varman fell 6-0, 6-2.
Following the loss, Briceno were among the alternates to be chosen to play in the main draw. He started things with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Michigan State's Andy Formanczyk before defeating Oklahoma State's 13th-ranked Mark Van Elden in straight sets as (7-6 (3), 6-3) well to set up a round of 16 match against Chu.
The Gators will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 14 as the team travels to Memphis, Tenn. for the ITA Regional Indoor. The event will conclude on Monday, Oct. 18.
