UF Men?s Tennis Defeated By Tennessee, 5-2

The ninth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team fell at No. 21 Tennessee on Sunday, 5-2. With the loss, the Gators slid to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in SEC play. The Vols improved their record to 10-5 and 3-3 in conference action.
The Gators and Volunteers went into Sunday's match looking to bounce back after both programs suffered losses on Friday to Georgia and South Carolina, respectively.
The doubles point was a fight after Tennessee's Ockie Oosthuizen and Ben Rogers defeated Florida's Janne Holmia and Martin Stiegwardt on three, 8-6. UF's Chris Brandi and Hamid Mirzadeh rallied at the top of the order to defeat 41st-ranked Simon Rea and Damien Spizzo, 9-7. The Vols took the point when Mark Dietrich and Wade Orr used the same margin to defeat Florida's Trey Johnson and Vladimir Obradovic.
Holmia (No. 39) evened the score when he picked up a singles win over Spizzo in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 on court two. The Vols increased the lead to 3-1 before Kiril Tcherveniachki provided the clincher with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over Florida's Stefan Tell on court four.
UF's Ryan Sherry rallied at the bottom of the lineup for Florida's only other point as he defeated Rogers 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Sherry was the only Gator to go undefeated on the weekend after he picked up a win over Georgia's Ricardo Gonzalez on Friday night in Athens, Ga.
The Gators return home to continue SEC play on Friday as the Gators host No. 26 Mississippi State at 5 p.m. The weekend will conclude next Sunday when No. 2 Ole Miss visits Gainesville at 1 p.m. The Rebels are 16-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.
