Although he was the only athlete to make it to the quarterfinal round of the men's tennis singles and doubles championship draws, University of Florida junior Hamid Mirzadeh's run at the NCAA Men's Tennis tournament came to a close on Saturday.
Baylor's Benjamin Becker outlasted Mirzadeh 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, who made it to the quarterfinal round for the second straight season. Last season, Mirzadeh made it to the quarterfinals before his run was stopped by Illinois' Amer Delic.
Mirzadeh teamed with redshirt sophomore Chris Brandi in the doubles as the pair advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in their careers. On Saturday, the UF tandem fell in a tight match to Georgia's third-ranked Bo Hodge and John Isner, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1). The match was the third meeting between the teams as the UGA tandem came away with wins in both the regular season and SEC tournament.
