Women's Tennis Completes Day One at Freeman Memorial

The University of Florida women's tennis team struggled during the first day of play at the third annual Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
Sophomore Nina Suvak, one of three Gators competing in the singles draw, won her opening round match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over California's Marion Ravelojaona. However, Suvak lost her round of 16 bout to Stanford's 41st-ranked Whitney Deason, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
UF's freshman pair of Whitney Benik and Lolita Franguylan lost their respective first round matches, as Benik fell 7-5, 6-4 to Arizona State's Sabrina Capannolo and Frangulyan dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Stanford's Lejla Hodzic. Frangulyan did post a 6-4, 7-6 win over South Carolina's Miranda Gutierrez in the first round of consolation, while Benik opened with a bye.
In doubles action, the Gator team of Alex Liles and Suvak lost to Cal's Susanna Babos and Marion Ravelojaona 8-5. UF's No. 3-ranked doubles team of Whitney Benik and Lolita Franguylan received the No. 1 seed in the Flight 1 Doubles draw and a bye in the 15-team field and begin action Saturday.
