W-Tennis: Srebrovic Reaches Quarterfinals of ITA Southern Regional
Friday, October 14, 2005 | Women's Tennis
The University of Florida's Diana Srebrovic blanked Auburn's Alex Haney 6-0, 6-0 Friday afternoon and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional Championships. Earlier in the day, Srebrovic paired with fellow Gator sophomore Whitney Benik and the duo reached the round of 16 before bowing out of the doubles event.
Srebrovic plays Georgia's Natalie Frazier on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 64-player singles draw, aiming to reach at least the finals where she would earn a spot in the main draw of the ITA National Indoor Championships, the second collegiate event grand slam event of the season.
In doubles, the UF tandem opened with a solid victory over Miami's Ana Rupic and Patricia Starzyk but fell in the second round to Georgia's Darya Ivanov and Evgenia Subbotina.
“Diana is starting to look very good in all facets of her game,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “In doubles, Whitney and Diana ran into a very good Georgia team. It showed we had only played one match prior to this tournament. Overall, we competed well and fought hard, but we were a little out of synch.”
