Several Gators Advance at 2005 ITA Men's Tennis Southeast

Five University of Florida men's tennis athletes advanced to the singles round of 32 as did a pair of doubles teams at the 2005 ITA Southeast Region Indoor Championships Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
Sophomore Greg Ouellette, who is ranked No. 14 nationally and is the top seed in the tournamend came away with a 3-5, 6-2, 6-3 win over UAB's Andre Maier. Senior Vladimir Obradovic also overcame dropping his first set to make it to the next round with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win against Memphis' Alex Jago.
Sophomore Nestor Briceno and seniors Stefan Tell and Chris Brandi claimed victories in the singles round of 64 in straight sets. Tell began his day in the round of 128 where he picked up a win over Alabama's Alex Felsenthal (6-3, 6-2). He then won his fifth straight match with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Miami's 62nd-ranked Tim Krebs. Briceno took out Florida Atlantic's David Femers (6-0, 7-6), while Brandi did not surrender a game in the first set either as he posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over Auburn's Nick Lane.
Briceno and Tell paired in doubles to edge Javier Bes and Jordie Kindervater of Alabama, 9-7. Obradovic and Brandi also teamed to take out Memphis' Bryan Bankester and Matt Brewer.
Players from the Southeast region are vying for spots in the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Indoor Championships which will be hosted by Ohio State University for the first time November 3-6. Participants for the second national championship of the 2005-06 season are determined through the regional championships and at-large selections will be announced on October 25.
