Brandi Makes Way Into Quarterfinal Match At ITA Southeast Men's Tennis Regional

University of Florida redshirt senior Chris Brandi made his way through two rounds of play in the main singles draw at the 2005 ITA Southeast Indoor Regional to set up a quarterfinal match Sunday morning with Miami's 20th-ranked Josh Cohen.
Brandi was one of five Gators in action today and the only one to get past the round of 16. With his win, he is 5-3 on the fall. He began the day with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Kentucky's 94th-ranked Nate Emgy. In the round of 16, Brandi met Middle Tennessee State's Marco Born and scored another straight set victory (6-4, 6-3).
UF sophomore Greg Ouellette, who is ranked No. 14 nationally and was the top seed in the tournament, and senior Vladimir Obradovic (No. 40) both advanced to the round of 16 before being eliminated. Oulllette picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win against Troy's Irving Morales in the round of 32 before being upset by Kentucky's Bruno Agostinelli (6-4, 7-5). Obradovic cruised past Ole Miss' Bram Ten Berge (6-1, 6-1) before being edged by Middle Tennessee State's No. 57 Andreas Siliestrom, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Oullette was also ousted in the round of 16 in the doubles draw along with partner junior Janne Holmia. Sophomore Nestor Briceno and senior Stefan Tell were also defeated in the round after both team picked up wins earlier in the day. In doubles round of 32, Holmia and Ouellette took a 9-7 victory against Mark Despot and Irving Morales, while Briceno and Tell took an 8-4 Ivan Bjelica and Phillippe Frayssinoux of Mississippi State.
Players from the Southeast region are vying for spots in the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Indoor Championships which will be hosted by Ohio State University for the first time November 3-6. Participants for the second national championship of the 2005-06 season are determined through the regional championships and at-large selections will be announced on October 25.
