Saturday, November 5, 2005 | Men's Tennis
Three members of the University of Florida men's tennis team were in action Friday at the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga. Seniors Ryan Sherry and Stefan Tell along with redshirt freshman Shaun Young all came away with wins on the singles courts, while Tell and Young paired for a doubles victory.
Tell and Young picked up straight set singles victories. Tell took a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Kentucky's Shane Collins to improve his fall record to 6-2, which leads all Gators in wins. Young evened his record at 4-4 to with a 7-5, 6-0 win against South Carolina's Kazuya Otani. Sherry got his first victory of the fall as he held off South Carolina's Geraldo Knorr, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles action, Young and Tell combined to outlast Knorr and Thomas Stoddard, 9-8 (7). The victory was their first of the three matches this fall.
The Bulldog Scramble is a non-bracketed tournament, featuring the five schools competing head-to-head in a format similar to the dual match season. The players who lose will not be knocked out of the competition, they will continue to play as the teams go through the round-robin event.
