The University of Florida men's tennis team concluded play at the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga., Sunday as the team ended a successful weekend with a pair of singles victories over ranked opponents.
Senior Stefan Tell collected his eight win of the fall season (8-2 overall) with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Kentucky's 68th-ranked Alex Hume. Tell finished the weekend 3-0 in singles play and finished the fall with a 3-0 mark against ranked opponents.
Redshirt senior Ryan Sherry was also undefeated in single play on the weekend (3-0) as he edged Kentucky's 94th-ranked Nate Emge, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9). Sherry's performance at the event evened his fall record at 3-3 and his victory over Emge was the first ranked foe he defeated this fall.
Sherry and Tell paired for the first time this year on the doubles courts as they defeated Emge and Hume, 9-8 (8).
UF redshirt freshman Shaun Young was also in action on the singles courts where he came up short against Georgia freshman Josh Varela, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The Bulldog Scramble is a non-bracketed tournament, featuring the five schools competing head-to-head in a format similar to the dual match season. The players who lose will not be knocked out of the competition; they will continue to play as the teams go through the round-robin event.
