World Championship Trials
Swimmers Enjoy Strong Performances at U.S. World Championship Trials

The University of Florida men's and women's swimming team had its strongest showing of the 2005 United States World Championship Trials at the IU Natatorium on Monday night.
Every Gator swimmer to compete in an event today, advanced into the finals and posted a top-15 place.
Junior Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) had a busy day as he placed seventh in the men's 100-meter freestyle in a 2008 U.S. Olympic Trial qualifying time of 49.98, before returning to the pool to take second in the 200-meter individual medley in another Olympic Trial qualifying time of 1:58.40.
Joining Lochte in the 200-meter individual medley was junior Brian Hartley (Indianapolis, Ind.) as he raced to a 14th-place finish in a time of 2:08.45.
On the women's side, sophomore Leah Retrum (Columbus, Ind.) placed fifth in the women's 200-meter backstroke in an Olympic Trials' qualifying time of 2:14.94.
The 2005 U.S. World Championship Trials continue tomorrow through April 6 at the IU Natatorium.
