Wednesday, June 1, 2005 | Men's Golf
University of Florida redshirt senior men's golfer Richard Treis (Baden-Baden, Germany) was named as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar the Golf Coaches Association of America announced today.
Treis, one of only two members of the PING All-Southeast Region team to be named as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, joins six other Southeastern Conference golfers on the prestigious team.
A 2002-03 Academic All-American at the University of North Carolina, Treis garnered his first career Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award. In his first season as a Gator, Treis earned his first career All-Southeast Region team honor, while also being named to the All-SEC's second-team. The 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Individual Champion has overcome a career threatening thumb injury to claim one individual win this season, while posting four top-20 finishes in nine tournaments. For the year Treis owns a 73.55 stroke average and has fired 10 rounds at or below par.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The seventh-ranked Gator men's golf team opens NCAA Championship play today at the Caves Valley Country Club in Baltimore, Md. Live scoring and daily tournament updates can be found at www.GatorZone.com.
