Collymore Records Six Points, But Team USA Falls To China, 3-0

University of Florida outside hitter Jane Collymore (Englewood, Colo.) registered six points, but the USA Women's National Volleyball team suffered its second 3-0 defeat in three matches to cap the first weekend of the World Grand Prix Sunday at Ningbo Beilun Gym before a crowd of 8,000.
China won the match with game scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 as the U.S. fell to 1-2 during the weekend. Collymore started and had five kills on 14 attempts with one block. Nancy Metcalf added a match-high 15 points for Team USA.
On the second weekend of pool play (July 1-3), the USA will play the Dominican Republic, Japan and Korea in Seoul, Korea, as a member of “Group D.” On the third weekend of pool play (July 8-10), the USA will play Japan, Poland and Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand, as a member of “Group I.”
The top five ranked teams after pool play will advance to the championship round along with the host team, Japan, from July 13-18 in Sendai, Japan .
The United States lost to the Netherlands, 0-3, on the first day of action (June 24) before defeating Thailand, 3-0, on June 25. Following the loss the China, the Americans are currently in eighth place in the overall standings.
