Florida Men?s Tennis Starts Play at Gator Invitational

Four members of the University of Florida men's tennis team were in action Thursday afternoon in the Gator Invitational held at the Ring Tennis Complex. Overall, UF came away with victories on three singles courts over athletes from the University of South Florida.
In singles play, Florida senior Vladimir Obradovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Janne Holmia (Tampere, Finland) edged their opponents in the first sets before putting them away in the second. Obradovic held off USF's Marc Jager 7-5 in the first set before he cruised 6-1 in the second for the straight set win. Holmia got a straight set win of his own over Juan Barragan (7-6 (5), 6-0) as he and Obradovic made their first appearances of the fall.
Tell rounded out the list of UF winners as he took a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision over Mark Gattiker. The victory was his first of the 2005 fall season and evened his record at 1-1.
Redshirt freshman Shaun Young was also in action. Young was defeated by USF's Dillon Brozyna (6-4, 6-4). Young and Tell paired up in the doubles to take on Brozyna and Barragan. The Gator tandem was defeated, 8-5, to drop their record to 2-1.
The Gator Invitational continues tomorrow through Sunday. Miami and South Florida will square off at 10 a.m. and Florida will meet Mississippi State at 2 p.m.
