Florida Men Defeat Morgan State, Move to 13-0

A 92-49 victory over Morgan State moved the Florida men's basketball team to 13-0 Tuesday night at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. With the win Billy Donovan's squad continues to etch its name in the history books, extending the best start in school history to 13 victories, taking its longest home winning streak in three years to 15 games, and are now set to enter conference play with an unblemished record.
The Gators finished with four players in double figures as junior guard Lee Humphrey (Maryville, Tenn.) led the team with 14 points, four assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Taurean Green (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) put up13 points and also dished a game-high nine assists and grabbed six steals. Sophomore Al Horford (Puerto Plata, D.R.) notched 12 points in the contest and recorded a game and season-high four blocks, while freshman Walter Hodge (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) finished the game with 12 points as well.
Sophomore Corey Brewer (Portland, Tenn.) pitched in nine points, three steals and two assists to the victory, as well as two rebounds. An unanswered 7-0 run by freshman David Huertas (Humacao, Puerto Rico) in the first half paved the way to his career-best eight point performance, which also included five assists and one block.
Senior Adrian Moss (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Garrett Tyler (Palm Harbor, Fla.) each posted five points for UF, while Joakim Noah (New York, N.Y.), Brett Swanson (Pace, Fla.) and Chris Richard (Lakeland, Fla.) added four apiece to the point total. Jack Berry (Windermere, Fla.) sank two points of his own, as each Gator player who entered the game scored against Morgan State.
In the first half the Orange and Blue started off with a 10-0 streak, and strung together short runs of points in its balanced scoring attack before taking a 53-27 advantage into the locker room at the half. An 11-2 run capped by two in the paint from Richard at the 14:27 mark opened the second half of the game and put UF up 66-31. The Gator offense kept its steam down the stretch, while the defense didn't allow for a Bears comeback, as Florida went on to claim a 92-49 victory.
Joseph McLean paced MSU and led all scorers with 15 points, as the Bears shot 35.8 percent from the field and went 6-for-13 from three-point range. In comparison UF notched a 58.6 field goal percentage and sank 12-of-24 from behind the arc. In addition the Gators scored more than 80 points for the ninth time during the 2005-06 season, and for the seventh time in their last eight contests.
Florida returns to the court and opens its Southeastern Conference schedule in a noon contest against Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 7, in a Jefferson-Pilot television broadcast game at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.
