Men?s Tennis Begins Play At ITA Region III Indoor Tournament

The University of Florida men's tennis began play at the ITA Region III Indoor Tournament in Lexington, KY, Friday. Four members of the squad advanced in the singles draw, while two UF teams picked up wins in the opening round on the doubles courts.
In action completed during afternoon and early evening singles play, redshirt sophomore Shaun Young, junior Nesstor Briceno and redshirt senior Jordan Dolberg advanced with wins in their first appearance at the event.
Young outlasted UT-Chattanooga's Mark Evan 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to move on to play Georgia's Travis Helgeson who is the top seed in the draw. Briceno (No. 45) also picked up a victory in three sets as he posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 decision over Middle Tennessee State's Joao Pailello. Briceno moved on to face Vanderbilt's Evan Dufaux.
In his match, Dolberg and Alabama's Dan Buikema determined every set in a tiebreaker before Dolberg edged Buikema 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5). Dolberg will take on Auburn's Robbert Lathouwers in Round of 64 action on Saturday.
Junior Greg Ouellette rounded out UF's list of singles winners late Friday night with a straight set 6-4, 6-2, victory over Fredrik Aarum of Ole Miss. Ouellette will play LSU's Eric DeRoche in the Round of 64 Saturday morning.
In doubles play, Dolberg and Billy Mulligan (No. 56) defeated Greg Anderson and Brian Dredge of Kentucky (8-2), and Young paired with Geoffrey Barton to claim an 8-5 win against Eastern Kentucky's Chad Becker and Lars Grazki.
Action continues at the event through Monday as players from around the country compete to earn a trip to the ITA Regional Indoor Championships next month in Columbus, OH.
