Florida Men?s Tennis Edged By Tennessee, 4-3

The fifth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Gators were edged by No. 55 Tennessee, 4-3, Friday evening in Knoxville. With the loss, UF fell to 8-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play while the Volunteers improved to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Florida dropped a competitive doubles point when sophomore Nestor Briceno and senior Stefan Tell were edged on the top court, 9-8, by No. 14 Ben Rogers and Adam Hubble. UF sophomore Greg Ouellette and redshirt senior Chris Brandi were the only Gator winners in doubles as they downed David Baxendine and Derek Stephens on court three, 8-2. Since pairing together for the first time at the National Team Indoors last month in Seattle, the Gator duo has jumped to a 4-0 record.
In singles, UF fell behind 2-0 before junior Janne Holmia and Brandi evened the match with straight set victories on courts two and five, respectively. Holmia got a 7-6, 6-1 win over Baxedine while Brandi used the same score against Rogers.
Kaden Hensel put the Volunteers on top for good when he took a three set 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 decision over senior Vladimir Obradovic(No. 68) on court three before Bobby Cameron (No. 123) provided the clincher over Ouellette (No. 39) at the top of the order (6-4, 0-6, 7-5).
Briceno (No. 66) added to the UF point total to close out the match as he defeated Kiril Tcherveniachki on court four 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Florida remains on the road as it closes the weekend at No. 1 Georgia. The match will begin at 2 p.m. ET in Athens, Ga.
