Men?s Tennis Continues Win Streak With 4-3 Victory At No. 21 Kentucky

The fifteenth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team picked up its fourth victory over a top 25 opponent this season as the Gators came away with a 4-3 win at No. 21 Kentucky Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Ky. UF won its fourth consecutive match in improving to 13-6 on the year and 7-3 in the SEC, while the Wildcats dropped their record to 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the league.
UF won the doubles point for the first time since hosting Alabama (March 31). Seniors Stefan Tell and Vladimir Obradovic coupled to defeat Alex Hume and Marcus Sundh at the top of the order, 8-2. Senior Chris Brandi and sophomore Greg Ouellette clinched the early 1-0 lead for the Gators by taking out Nate Emge and Greg Johnstone on two, 8-3. Sophomore Nestor Briceno and senior Ryan Sherry used an 8-4 showing to defeat Bruno Agostinelli and Kenny Hodge on court three.
The sweep of the doubles courts marked the fourth time the Gators were able to do so this season.
In singles, Ouellette (No. 34) extended the lead to 2-0 in Florida's favor when he defeated Agostinelli on court two (6-4, 6-2). The win was Ouellette's six straight and fifth consecutive in straight sets. It was also evened his dual match record against ranked opponents at 4-4 this year.
Sherry got UF to within one of the win by taking a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Greg Anderson on court six. It was the second straight win for the Gator senior, who entered the weekend with only one victory in his previous five matches.
Briceno (No. 48) clinched the match for the Gators as he won his ninth against an SEC opponent this season (9-1 in dual matches vs. SEC foes) with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 decision over Emge (No. 115) on court three.
Florida completes the regular season on Saturday, April 15, when the Gators host No. 43 South Carolina in Gainesville at 1 p.m.
