Lady Gators Sit in Third Place Following Round Two of Lady Buckeye

The No. 15 University of Florida women's golf team sits in third place following the second round of play at the Lady Buckeye in Columbus, Ohio. Sophomore Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) leads the Lady Gators in third place at the event, held at the par 72, 6,177-yard Scarlet Golf Course.

Gal fired a 71 in the first round, followed by a 70 in the second round to finish at minus-three for the day, and hold third place with a two-round total of 141. Redshirt freshman Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) sits in a tie for 10^th following the second round after recording a 146 for the day (72-74=146).

Sophomore captain Tiffany Chudy (Miramar) finished the day in a tie for 22^nd (75-74=149), while sophomore Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) notched a tie for 28^th with a two-round total of 150 (72-78). Freshman Mallory Blackwelder (Versailles, Ky.) rounded out the Lady Gator five, as she finished with a 151 (74-77) for the day, good for a tie in 36^th-place.

In the team competition the Florida women combined to shoot a 584 in the two rounds of play, with a 289 in the first and a 295 in the second to finish in third place. Southeastern Conference foe Auburn finished the day in first place after firing a 568 for the two rounds to finish at minus-eight for the day. Purdue sits in second place, while Michigan State claimed fourth and Kent State finished in fifth.

“The girls came out strong and did not let up in the first round,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “They did a great job and played really well, I'm proud of their performance. I think the fatigue of playing two rounds in one day may have set in the second, but we're only one stroke out of second place right now. To win this tournament tomorrow they need to shoot lower than they did in the first round; it's going to take an under-par team score to come away with a victory here, and I have full confidence we can get that done.”
