Senior Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was named one of three finalist for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award on Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Every will join Oklahoma's Anthony Kim and Georgia's Chris Kirk at the Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas on May 13 for the final award presentation.
A two-time first-team PING All-America selection, Every earned his fourth career title this season at the Inverness Invitational. In addition to his victory to open the season, he placed in the top five at six events throughout the year. This past summer Every was the low amateur at the U.S. Open, finishing tied for 28th. He was a member of the winning U.S. teams at both the Palmer Cup and Walker in 2005 and was also a member of the 2004 Palmer Cup squad. Every was recently named first-team All-SEC for the third time in his collegiate career.
“Being a member of the Walker Cup team and in the top-30 at the US Open are big accomplishments for a man his age,” Florida head coach Buddy Alexander said. “He is very deserving of this honor.”
The Ben Hogan Award is presented annually to the nation's top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months.
