University of Florida men's tennis senior Greg Ouellette (Ormond Beach) opened the day with a victory to advance to the quarterfinals where he was defeated Friday evening at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Racquet Club of Columbus, Ohio.
Ouellette (No. 10 ) started Friday by edging Ohio State's 104th-ranked Justin Kronauge on his home courts, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. In the evening match against Stanford's Alex Clayton, Ouellette fell 6-3, 6-4. Ouellette's run to the quarterfinals started Thursday when he moved into the Round of 16 by defeating Oklahoma State's Ivan Ouchkarov (No. 15), 6-4, 6-2.
The event, which is being hosted by Ohio State for the third consecutive season, is the second of three national championships during the 2007-08 collegiate tennis season. The other two are the ITA All-America Championships held earlier this year and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May. At the first national championship, Ouellette advanced to the semifinals. A year ago at this event, Ouellette fell in the opening round before advancing to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw.
