Men's Tennis Falls To Florida State, 4-3

For the first time under sixth-year head coach Andy Jackson, the Florida men's tennis team fell short to an in-state opponent as the No. 8 Gators were defeated by No. 12 Florida State, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee.
With the loss, UF slipped to 3-2 on the season and 24-1 all-time against opponents from the state under Jackson. The match was the first meeting for the two teams since the Elite Eight of the 2005 NCAA Championship as the No.3 Gators ended the No. 18 Seminoles run in the tournament with the 4-0 victory on May 22, 2005.
Florida State won the doubles point, however, UF's Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette defeated Ytai Abougzir and Jonathas Sucupira, 9-8 (5). With the win, the Gator duo improved to 4-0 on the top court this season.
After dropping the doubles point, UF came away with wins on each of the top three singles courts to push the Seminoles.
Levine improved to 4-0 in his collegiate career with each of his wins coming in straight sets. Saturday's victory came by a 6-1, 6-1 margin against Abougzir.
After the Gators slipped behind 2-1, junior Nestor Briceno (No. 60) evened the match for the second time on the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win of his own on court three against Sam Chang. Briceno improved to 4-1 with his victory as did Ouellette (No. 16) by outlasting Jean Yves Aubone after the team match was determined (6-4, 2-6, 6-0).
Florida returns home and back to the courts on Sunday, Feb. 25, as it hosts South Florida at 1 p.m. at the Ring Tennis Complex. Admission is free.
