The University of Florida men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 Friday evening by Alabama as the Gators were making their first road trip in 26 days. With the loss, UF slipped to 9-5 on the season and 4-3 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Crimson Tide moved to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.
UF lost the doubles point, but came away with a win on court one where sixth-ranked Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette held off No. 28 Dan Buikema/Matthieu Thibaudeau, 8-6. The win gave the UF tandem an 11-2 overall record.
Levine and Ouellette provided the Gator points on the singles courts with wins on courts one and two, respectively, to even the match at 2-2. However, the Crimson Tide took control and picked up wins on the remaining three singles courts for the 5-2 victory.
Levine (No. 4) defeated No. 89 Jospeh Jung in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Levine kept his singles record spotless as he went to 13-0 on the season and 10-0 against ranked opponents. His 10 wins this season over ranked singles foes match Ouellette for the team high.
Ouellette's win was also in straight sets as he took out Alabama's Sammy Struyf (7-6, 6-2) to improve his record to 11-3 on the year.
