Florida Men's Tennis Defeats South Carolina, 6-1

For fifth time in the last six matches, the University of Florida men's tennis team came away with a victory as the Gators defeated South Carolina in Columbia Saturday afternoon, 6-1. With the win, UF improved to 12-5 on the season and 7-3 in the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina slipped to 11-13 on the season and 2-9 in conference play.
Florida swept the doubles courts for the early 1-0 lead. UF's sixth-ranked Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette defeated Pedros Campos and Ivan Cressoni at the top of the order, 8-2, to improve to 14-2 on the season. Dan Cash and Billy Mulligan came away with an 8-4 decision against David Wolff and Yevgeny Supeko on court two to clinch the point. Nestor Briceno and Geoffrey Barton also came away with a win as they edged Thomas Stoddard and Joseph Veeder on court three, 9-8 (6).
Singles play saw Florida build the lead to 3-0 with wins by Jordan Dolberg on court five and Levine on court one before USC could get on the board. Dolberg had a straight set 6-0, 6-1 showing against Spencer Feldman, while Levine also won in straight sets against Supeko (6-1, 6-0). With his victory, Levine remained unbeaten this year (17-0) at the No. 1 spot in the order.
Mulligan clinched the match for the Gators as he knocked off Wolff on court four (6-2, 3-6, 6-3). The win was the second straight for Mulligan and third over an SEC opponent this season.
Briceno overcame his first set on court three against Cressoni to add to the UF point total with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 showing. His win moved him to 12-5 in dual matches this year.
Barton closed out the Gator scoring when he was awarded the match on court six when Stoddard withdrew due to injury (7-6, 5-7, ret.).
UF next goes to Auburn to complete the match against the Tigers. UF leads, 2-1, in a match that was originally schedule for April 1, but was postponed due to rain. The Gators and Tigers will pick up where they left off on Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
