UF Men's Tennis Begins Play At Southern Intercollegiate

Several members of the University of Florida men's tennis team were in action Friday as the fall season got underway at the 2007 Southern Intercollegiate Championship in Athens, Ga.
Overall, four Gators have secured wins to advance in their respective draws. In the Division I singles draw, Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) overcame Yoann Re of Virginia Tech in impressive fashion, 6-2, 6-3 in his first collegiate appearance. He will square-off against the 16th-seed Pedro Campos from South Carolina the Round of 32.
In the Division II singles draw, junior Billy Mulligan (Miami) opened the event with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 showing over Steven Dean of Charleston Southern. Florida sophomores Geoffrey Barton (Boca Raton) and Dan Cash (Oslo, Norway) also picked up victories. Barton edged Vanderbilt's Adam Baker, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6), while Cash defeated Jack Roux (USC Update), 6-4, 6-1. Next up for Barton is South Carolina's Thomas Stoddard in the Round of 32, while Cash will meet Arkansas' Bradwin Williams in the same stage.
Singles play for the Gators is still in action late Friday night with senior Nestor Briceno (Pembroke Pines) making his debut at the event against USC Upstate's Sandy Franz. Florida men's tennis fans are encouraged to check www.gatorzone.com for results as they become available.
