Men's Tennis Continues at Southern Intercollegiate

The University of Florida men's tennis team continued play at the 2007 Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., Saturday. With play going late into the evening, three Gator doubles teams have advanced and sophomore Geoffrey Barton (Boca Raton) made his way into the quarterfinals of the Division II singles draw.
Barton started the day with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 showing over South Carolina's Thomas Stoddard before going on to defeat Georgia Southern's Anze Cevka (6-1, 6-4). Junior Billy Mulligan (Miami) and Dan Cash (Oslo, Norway) also picked up victories in the Division II singles round of 32. Mulligan took out Memphis' Charlie Ramsay (6-4, 6-2), while Cash outlasted Arkansas' Bradwin Williams (6-3, 4-6, 6-1).
Saturday saw doubles action get underway with all three Florida teams moving on in the Division II draw. Barton and Nestor Briceno (Sr., Pembroke Pines) teamed to defeat Samford's Hank Grant and Richard Walsh, 8-1. Cash and Mulligan also won as they took out South Carolina's Johannes Pulsfort and David Wolff, 8-6. UF freshmen Eric Corace (Naples) and Tyler Hochwalt (Scottsdale, Ariz.) advanced as well when Arkansas' Christopher Nott and Tyler Tarnasky withdrew.
