Men's Tennis Edged By Miami, 4-3

The University of Florida men's tennis team came up short in its first road contest of the year as the Gators fell, 4-3, to Miami on Tuesday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables. With the loss, UF fell to 1-1 on the year while the Hurricanes improved to 3-0.
The match was even at three and came down to the last singles court in play before Miami's JC Whitner gave the Hurricanes the 4-3 advantage by defeating UF's Erik Corace on court six, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.
Florida and Miami started the match ranked No. 14 and No. 36, respectively. However, the ITA poll was released early this evening and the Gators checked in at No. 13, while the Hurricanes held at their spot in the rankings.
Florida fell in the doubles point with losses on courts one and two. UF's Nestor Briceno and Alex Lacroix did come away with their second win in as many outings on court three with an 8-4 showing against Miami's Keith Crawley and Hector Nieto.
In singles play, Miami got the wins it was looking for at the top and bottom of the lineup with victories on courts one, two and six. Briceno (No. 62) was joined by Jeff Dadamo and Tyler Hochwalt in putting up points for the Gators.
Briceno took out Miami's Carl Sundberg on court three with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 victory. Hochwalt's win on court five came in straight sets as well as he defeated Crawley, 6-1, 6-1. Dadamo dropped his first set on court four to Vivek Subramanian, however, he came back to take both the second and third by scores of 6-4.
Florida returns home this Friday against UCF at 3 p.m. The match will be held at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville and admission is free.
