Men's Tennis Opens Singles Play At ITA Southeast Regional

Dan Cash, Tyler Hochwalt and Johnny Hamuii each posted a pair of wins Friday to advance. Cash defeated Middle Tennessee State's Daniel Sanchez, 7-6, 3-5, 7-6, before taking out Sanchez's teammate, Alex McCann, 6-2, 6- 2. Hochwalt began with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Chris Doerr of Mississippi State and went on to defeat Tennesee's Jeremy Tweedt, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Hamui had two straight set wins, the first coming against Benny Fischer of Memphis (7-5, 6-2) and the second against USF's Thomas Estrada, 6-4, 7- 6 (5).
Joey Burkhardt also had a win in the round of 128 with a 6-3, 6-2 showing against USF's Yannick Yoshizawa. Results from his and Jeff Dadamo's round of 64 matches will be on www.GatorZone.com as they become available.
The four-day event is one of several regionals taking place around the country. The singles and doubles winners of the ITA Southeast Regional as well as the singles finalist receive an automatic berth into the ITA National Indoor in Charlottesville, Va., Nov. 6-9.
