Juniors Megan Alexander (Dallas, Texas) and Marrit Boonstra (Groningen, The Netherlands) advanced to the semifinals in doubles action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships on Friday with an 8-0 win over Jacksonville University's Tatiana Soldatova and Elvira Yusupova.
The No. 6-ranked duo of Alexander and Boonstra were the only Gators competing on day one of the ITA Regionals due to scheduling changes that postponed singles' action until Saturday.
The third-seeded pair of Alexander and Boonstra won 8-2 over Florida A&M's Alice Izomor and Rachel Pye in the opening round. They advanced through the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over the University of Georgia's Monika Dancevic and Cameron Ellis.
Facing Jacksonville's Soldatova and Yusupova in the quarterfinals, Alexander and Boonstra breezed through with an 8-0 win. The shutout sets up a semifinal match with Ole Miss' Kristi Boxx and Karen Nijssen on Sunday.
With three wins on the day, the duo of Alexander and Boonstra improved to 5-2 in doubles action on the year and 20-6 in their collegiate career playing together.
